Electrical engineering is an engineering discipline concerned with the study, design, and application of equipment, devices, and systems which use electricity as a driving source. Mechanical equipment very often relies on electrical systems such as transformers and electrical motors for their driving power.
The lifeblood of industrial machines is electricity. One cannot think how it would be to move back to steam or fuel oil for driving our machinery. It is accordingly critically important that an Asset Manager understand and is able to communicate with technical personnel regarding the installation and maintenance of electrical systems.
Most of the assets that an Asset Manager "manages", in the broadest sense of that word (manage) include a considerable proportion of electrical sub-systems and components. As a result of this, electrical knowledge is essential for an Asset Manager to perform his/her function.
Although the organisation will have engineers and workers with electrical prowess, the Asset Manager must be able to communicate with these people and lead them to success. As part of this course, students consequently learn the fundamentals of electrical engineering.
